Orchard

In the winter, pollen from the catkins is spread by light winds through the orchard to pollinate the small female flowers.  Fertilisation occurs in late spring with the nuts developing during the summer months. In late summer they mature and fall from the trees, usually in March.  The nuts are swept into rows under the trees and gathered from the ground with a mechanical harvester.  They are cured in the sun for several days before being dried and stored in silos for processing throughout the year.

Nuts are mechanically cracked weekly to provide fresh kernels for our products and customers.  The skin that surrounds the hazelnut kernel contains anti-oxidants that help preserve the kernel, enabling nuts to be stored for over 12 months.
